The OATA is pleased to provide a Student membership as well as annual, AT accredited college/university program, student scholarships. Starting in the 2021 enrolment year, as part of the Association’s anti-racism program and support for the Black Lives Matter campaign, the OATA will also be offering TWO scholarships to Ontario High School students of colour interested in and who qualify to enroll in AT programs at Sheridan College or York University. Details of the scholarships are pending final approval and will be promoted through High School guidance counsellors and established programs promoting Ontario scholarship programs.
The OATA Student members usually join for their final two years in their AT programs. The OATA provides, through an independent insurer, professional liability insurance for students who work to secure practice hours outside of college/university clinical hours as they prepare for CATA certification. Student members also get a discounted registration fee to annual OATA professional development programs. Certification Candidates are also to be offered a new mentorship program by the Association later in 2020. The CAT(C) is a registered trademark of the CATA and the professional designation for a Certified Athletic Therapist. Students may not use or shorten the trademark in any way as this title is reserved for a Certified Member of the Association.
As per the CATA by-law section 3.4.4. all Certification Candidates who have maintained status shall be entitled to use “Certification Candidate” or the French language equivalent (“Candidat à l’agrément”).
Students are the future of the AT profession and, as such, are welcomed members.
